How do I become a BGS member?
To become a BGS member you must be invited (the requirements for receiving an invitation are listed on the Eligibility page). The students that are eligible will receive an email from the St John's BGS chapter informing them of their acceptance (a complete list of those accepted is listed at the bottom of the Eligibility page). Additionally, students will receive an email from BGS national. Students MUST complete the online Membership Data Profile prior to the deadline indicated on your invitation to become a member.
Do I have to attend the ceremony to become a member?
No. However, ceremony attendance is strongly encouraged. If you are not able to attend the ceremony- you will be contacted and your BGS certificate and pin will be mailed to you.
What is the dress code for the ceremony?
The dress code is business professional. Women can wear a skirt or pants suit with heels while men may wear a blazer or suit, button down shirt, suit pants, a tie and dress shoes.
Is there transportation provided to the ceremony?
This year we are considering providing transportation from the Queens campus. If you are interested in this option- please indicate this when you RSVP.
I'm already a BGS member; do I need to join again?
No. Once you become a BGS member you are a member for life. However, in the rare occasions that a student achieves this significant academic achievement both as an Undergraduate and as a Graduate student- BGS has a special award called the 2nd recognition. All students recieving their 2nd recognition will be honored at the BGS ceremony.
Is there graduation merchandise for BGS?
Beta Gamma Sigma does have graduation cords, stoles, and tassle charms for purchase. St. John's does not provide them- but students can purchase them at the BGS National Store.
